Carolynn Hodges, Associate

Carolynn's qualifications are a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Psychology, from Macquarie University. Carolynn has been practicing as a Clinical Psychologist for over 10 years, both in private practice and as senior psychologist for a leading Employee Assistance provider. In her role as senior psychologist Carolynn has provided counselling and therapeutic interventions for people with a wide range difficulties and disorders, and has acted as advisor not only to other psychologists but also to HR directors and managers across a variety of organisations. Carolynn also lectures in counselling and communication skills to Masters students in the department of Psychology and Linguistics at Macquarie University.

Carolynn has extensive experience helping people with a wide range of issues, including workplace related issues, such as workplace bullying and harassment, interpersonal conflict, retirement and redundancy, career transition, work/life balance, and burnout.

More generally she works with depression, confidence and self esteem, trauma, stress management, time management, lifestyle issues, family dynamics, grief and loss, wellbeing, pain management and issues related to ageing.

Carolynn is also very experienced in the area of relationship counselling and couples therapy, and is adept at helping individuals and couples to overcome difficulties such as poor communication, anger, conflict, loss of trust and respect, and parenting problems.

In addition, Carolynn possesses considerable expertise treating anxiety and anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, generalized anxiety, panic attacks, fear of public speaking, health anxiety, performance anxiety, specific phobias, and excessive worry.

Other areas of interest and expertise for Carolynn include hypnosis, which she utilises as an adjunct therapy for difficulties such as smoking. She has also helped many individuals to deal with tinnitus and other physical problems.

Carolynn is a very warm and accomplished therapist, who generally works within a cognitive behavioural framework. In addition to working clinically, Carolynn has conducted Honours level research examining the impact of human violence on adolescents, for which she received an Australian Postgraduate Award, and Masters level research investigating relationships between anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic reactions. She has also conducted research for a government department aimed at identifying a best practice model for service delivery in the Public Health sector.

Carolynn has conducted numerous seminars and workshops for both the general public and for other health professionals, across a broad range of topics including work / life balance, conflict resolution, workplace resilience, communication skills, change management, depression and anxiety in the workplace, posttraumatic stress reactions, peer support, and dealing with difficult people. She has also authored a publication on ways to avoid stress.

Carolynn is fully registered with the NSW Psychologists' Registration Board, and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian Psychological Society College of Clinical Psychologists, the Division of Independently Practicing Psychologists, the Australian Society of Hypnosis, and the Employee Assistance Professionals Association.
