Dr Paul Pusey

Paul has a specialized Honours Bachelor of Science Degree from York University in Toronto, a Masters Degree in Forensic Psychology from the University of Western Sydney and a Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology from Charles Sturt University.

Paul has 10 years of experience as a clinical and forensic psychologist providing assessment, treatment and therapy in a diverse array of settings including public health facilities, private clinics and forensic institutions. He has worked with a wide range of individuals and their presenting issues to help them to achieve their therapeutic goals and is skilled in the use of a number of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.

Paulís areas of specialty include the treatment of substance abuse, the treatment of mood, anxiety, adjustment and psychotic disorders, forensic assessment and treatment, as well as therapy for behavioural issues such as anger management and problematic gambling.

Other areas in which Paul provides effective interventions are the treatment of trauma related issues, working with unconscious patterns of interpersonal relating and problematic personality issues. He is able to develop positive and effective therapeutic relationships with individuals by providing a personalised and collaboratively developed treatment plan based on each personís needs and goals.

In his forensic work, Paul provides expert opinion and court reports on forensic psychological matters, including general risk assessment, risk of recidivism, and options for treatment related to offending behaviour. He also provides specific assessments of violence, assessments of psychological injury, court reports for civil and criminal matters, and assessment of fitness to plead and stand trial.

Paul has worked with a range of psychology colleagues as a supervisor, and is often sought out for his ability to confidently guide others by sharing his knowledge.

Paul is committed to the further development of his skills through receipt of ongoing professional supervision and continuing professional development. He is fully registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and has specialist endorsement in both Clinical and Forensic Psychology.
